“Sky Quilting” is a series of textile works that capture the sky through the combined practices of photography and quilting. Quilting techniques are used to join custom fabric printed with photographs of the sky and embroidered with sun-inspired imagery. The resulting pieces merge photography and quilting to create transformative renderings of the everyday beauty above us. This project not only reflects a personal journey, which started with a search for sunlight on overcast winter days in Berlin, but also expresses a more universal longing for something warm, beautiful, and hopeful. The sky is used as a meditative symbol of both comfort and empowerment at a time when political, environmental, and economic uncertainties challenge us all.
